Descripción : BHEKISANI MANYONI (b 1945) 'Droughtness' South Africa Linocut on Japon Paper. - - Biography Manyoni was an early member of the famous Rorke's Drift Art Center where he developed skills in printmaking, ceramics, and sculpture. Rorke's Drift and the artwork of Rorke's Drift artists such as Manyoni, Azaria Mbatha, and Ephraim Ziqubu had a profound influence on the development of art in South Africa during the last part of the twentieth century. Begun during the height of apartheid in the 1960s, Rorke's Drift was one of the few places where black artists could study and work. The artwork that was produced by Rorke's Drift artists helped to define and express South African culture during and after apartheid. Manyoni studied at Rorke's Drift for three years before working there for another two years until 1965. He has been artist-in-residence at Katlehong Art Centre since 1979. His prints, sculpture, and paintings have been exhibited worldwide including exhibitions at South African Association of Arts, University of Pretoria, American Embassy in Pretoria, Helen de Leeuw Gallery,

Condition report : Dark crisp large impression. Paper shows some minor rippling and handling creases. Archival matte and simple black frame. Not examined out of frame.
