Descripción : Africa, Rwanda, Tutsi culture, Ca. 1920s. Pristine woven coiled grass or vegetal fiber basket created as a bridal gift or token of love by an aristocratic Tutsi woman. The Tutsi are famous for their woven artifacts. Baskets like this example are called Agaseki and are traditionally decorated with red and black geometric patterns and capped with a pointed lid. This is a perfect example of this form with fabulous provenance, collected in situ from the collection of principal chief Karanbizi Manbago. Size: 8 tall with lid.
