These antique volumes feature red printed paper-covered boards, with black backstrips and corners. This two-volume work has been divided into six parts, of which this lot is lacking at least one, possibly two. Two of the sections are lacking front or rear boards. The volumes are disbound, and the loose pages/plates display light to moderate wear, including age toning, chipping, small tears at the extremities, and faint smudging. These issues manifest mainly in the margins. Two title pages are present, both with vignettes depicting temple ruins, an obelisk, boats on the Nile, and pyramids in the background. A colored scarab appears below the title. Each volume contains numerous lithographs, many of which are richly colored. The majority of these plates are well preserved. From the title page: [This work is] profusely illustrated with fine engravings and colored plates by the best artists, from the works of l'Expedition de l'Egypte, Lepsius, Prisse d'Avennes, &c. &c. Depicted in these images are famous archaeological sites, including Thebes, Giza, Philae, Luxor, and Dendera, as well as mummified animals, the Egyptian landscape, and architectural elevations of pyramids. Of the 72 original plates, 53 are present. It should be noted that plate 48 has a closed diagonal tear at the foot measuring approximately 5 1/2 in length.
