Notes : David Botha was born in 1921 in Graaff-Reinet, South Africa, near Cape Town. In 1941 he graduated as an art teacher from the Cape Town Teachers Training College, and taught in high schools in Paarl from 1946 to 1979. However during this time he also studied at the Camberwell School of Art (London) and conducted art study travel to France, Italy, Spain and the Middle East. As an artist Botha was influenced by the Cape Impressionists like Hugo Naude, Pieter Wenning and Nita Spilhaus, and like them Botha practiced both painting and printmaking. His work was exhibited extensively throughout South Africa, and today can be found in such permanent collections as Hester Rupert Art Museum (Graaff Reneit), National Museum (Bloemfontein), Pretoria Art Museum and the South African National Gallery (Cape Town). David Botha died in 1995.
