He was part of a select group of Gallery Watatu artists and his work has influenced subsequent generations of Kenyan painters. His drawings and paintings celebrate the bohemian, multiracial world of the Nairobi nightclubs that offered an often perilous escape from the drabness and oppression of the Daniel Arap Moi regime and a colorful alternative to the deadening restrictions of apartheid in his own country. His work is in the Peabody Essex Museum collection and in museum collections in Europe.
