Notes : EXHIBITED:Pretoria, Pretoria Art Museum, Adolph Jentsch Retrospective"Jentsch regards it as very important to choose the right time to begin and the right time to stop painting. He searched for the spirit of the landscape, experiencing daily the serene joy of apperception, of looking at and absorbing, of identifying himself with the landscape, and sinking so deeply into it that it is almost as if he and it were one.The world inside him harmonises with the world outside. Van Gogh once remarked to his brother that 'to paint the countryside, you must see it not as a tourist, but as someone who has sunk into it as deep as any potato'. That is exactly what Jentsch has done."Oil paintings by Jentsch are rare, as a great deal of his work was destroyed in 1975 by a fire in a storage facility.BIBLIOGRAPHY:O.
