Description : Yoruba Ahnenfigur Benin, westliche Yoruba. Holz geschnitzt. Ahnenfigur, Mutter mit Kind, die für Fruchtbarkeit steht. Frauenkopf mit für die Yoruba typischen Haarschmuck und Narben-Tatauierungen im Gesicht. Restliche Gestaltung der Figur und des Kindes lässt auf eine schnelle Durchführung der Arbeit schließen, welche nach afrikanischer Schnitzkunstvorschrift nachts und in einem ununterbrochenen Arbeitsvorgang fertiggestellt werden muss. Größe ca. 20 x 2 cm, Höhe ca. 80 cm, Gewicht ca. 7,2 kg. Teils Risse im Holz, teils minimal berieben und best. Anbei eine Expertise des Dr. Wilhelm Otte, Professor associé der Universität zu Benin - Togo. Laut Einlieferer wurde die Figur von Hans Wende, einem Experten für afrikanische Kunst aus Düsseldorf, auf 2000-3000€ geschätzt. Provenienz: süddeutsche Privatsammlung. Yoruba ancestor figure Benin, Western Yoruba. Carved wood. Ancestor figure, mother with child, representing fertility. Female head with hair ornaments typical for the Yoruba and scar tattoos on the face. The rest of the figure and the child suggest a quick execution of the work, which according to African carving rules has to be finished at night and in an uninterrupted work process. Size approx. 20 x 2 cm, height approx. 80 cm, weight approx. 7.2 kg. Partly cracks in the wood, partly minimally rubbed and damaged. Enclosed is an expertise of Dr. Wilhelm Otte, professor associé of the University of Benin - Togo. According to the consignor the figure was estimated by Hans Wende, an expert for African art from Düsseldorf, at 2000-3000€. Provenance: Southern German private collection.
