The Dogon Tribe is famous for its exceptional carving skills, especially for the wooden, ceremonial masks, which influenced the European view on African, tribal art during the 20th century to a large extent. This mask shows male characteristics- -with a beak like mouth and a Mohican like hair style. Especially striking with this sculpture are the scarifications- artistically rendered scars, which cover the entire body.
