This is the rating and price for Wood Statuette, Squatting Akhom Hawk, Egypt, Ptolemaic Period

Description : Wood, painted Egypt, Late Period to early Ptolemaic Period (664-c. 200 BCE) Statuette of a squatting Akhom hawk Representation of one of the Horus sons or of Seker, god of the dead Dimensions: 7 x 10.7 x 4.1 cm (width x height x depth) Provenance: Private Collection Bruno Wertz Scientific research: Dr. Jan Moje, Free University of Berlin (see references below) Similar objects are held by the Museum of the University of Tübingen (ÄSUT 977) and the Collection LUGTS in Paris(2806) This statuette depicts a so-called Akhom hawk in round plastic. Akhom describes the cult image of a squatting hawk since the New Kingdom, which can be read as the representation of the four Horus sons or possibly also of Seker, god of the dead. This sample originates from the Late Period of ancient Egypt to early Ptolemaic Period (664-c. 200 BCE). Akhom hawks were representatives of the four cardinal directions, and for example installed on the four poles of pole coffins, and also on covers of wooden canopic and ushabti jars. The small size of the present hawk suggests the latter. The stretched out crawls in red colour are relatively volatilely painted on the square extension in front of the breast. Today, the upper feathers depict red-brown remains of colour, the lower ones are white with red detail drawings of the plumage. The today rounded beak is painted yellow, the human eyes in black (lids and pupil). The hole on the head arises from the two feathers originally plugged in here with the sun disk. The wooden statuette of the Akhom hawk is in well-preserved condition. There are adhering grains of sand on the surface. The socket is, in terms of colour, largely abraded. The wood is stronglyweatheredon the surface, and it displays dryness cracks. The dimensions of the figure are 7 x 10.7 x 4.1 cm (width x height x depth). Auctionata would like to express its deep gratitude to Dr. Jan Moje for the scientific preparation of the collection and the research for the text.
