Description : A WEST AFRICAN TRIBAL CARVED HARDWOOD MATERNITY FIGURE STOOL / TABLE possibly late 19th / early 20th century, possibly Ivory Coast, the stylisation of the figures and their seated position bare similarities with Baule pieces, the body of the stool formed from two seated figures of breast feeding women holding an infant, their hair braided and supporting a bowl style flat top above their heads, the base formed of a similar inverted bowl form with geometric design, the top inset with a silver Napoleon III coin (possibly later addition), 51cm high, 36cm in diam.
