Description : A set of two knapped flint axes, Egypt, late Neolithic to Pre-Dynastic Period, 6000-3500 B.C., H 10,2 - 14,6 cm Robert de Rustafjaell (1876-1943), Robert Fawcus-Smith, was a British collector and author who worked in Egypt as a geologist and mining engineer. After World War I, de Rustafjaell moved to the United States, where he lived under the name Col. Prince Roman Orbeliani. Bearing museum collection number: 59.327.4 Provenance: Colonel Robert de Rustafjaell's (1876-1943) collection, acquired before 1909. Gustave Maurice Heckscher (1884-1967) collection, purchased at one of the Sotheby, Wilkinson & Hodge Auctioneers sales of the Valuable Collection of Egyptian Antiquities formed by Robert de Rustafjaell, Esq. held in 1906, 1913 and 1915. De-accessioned by Heckscher Museum of Art, Long Island, New York, in 2012.
