Description : A Pair of Yoruba Gelede Masks. This lot contains two carved wooden cap masks from the Yoruba peoples. The masks were danced in the Gelede festivals, which are held yearly and celebrate local community mothers and encourage correct social behavior in society. Both masks show wear and age consistent with ceremonial use. Yoruba peoples, Nigeria, Africa. Sizes:1) 4.5'' x 7'' x 10'' (11 x 18 x 25 cm), 2) 7.75'' x 8.5'' x 6'' (20 x 22 x 15 cm).
