Description : Tribal Art: Female spouse figure blolo bla Baule, Elfenbeinküste wood, blackish brown patina, slender figure with closed contours, both hands resting aside the accentuated navel, the upper part of the body and the back coated with raised scarification marks, crowned by a beautiful head with symmetrical arranged facial features and elaborate, fine grooved coiffure with neck lobe, slightly dam., hairline cracks, missing part and place of repair (base), on pedestal, the Baule believe that every man has a partner in the hereafter. These partners are embodied by the wooden figures blolo bian (male) or blolo bla (female version). As very private items they are kept in the sleeping room, hidden from the eyes of public. In order to keep them well disposed, they receive sacrifical offerings, they are fed and caressed.
