Description : Africa, Ivory Coast, Dan, ca. early 20th century CE. An elegant, hand-carved wooden staff with an endearing finial depicting a child being carried upon his mother's back, his/her arms and legs tenderly wrapped around her body. The woman's visage displays characteristics typical of Dan masks such as a biplanar concave face, high-domed forehead, upturned nose, and pointed chin. A wonderful example featuring a touching maternal scene. Custom, museum-quality stand. Size: 21.125 H (53.7 cm)
