Lythgoe's report on Cemetery 7000 at Naga-ed-Der has been delayed for some 60 years through a series of unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances, and the present volume is certainly not what Lythgoe himself would have produced had he been able to publish it within a reasonable time after the excavation of the cemetery . . . The material on which this publication will be based is as follows: (1) Mr. Lythoge's field notes. (2) Certain anatomical comments by Sir Grafton Elliot Smith which have survived . . . (3) So much of the photographic record as has survived . . . (4) Certain line drawings of objects, especially decorated pottery . . . (5) Diagrams of graves and their contents drawn from field notes. (6) The plan of Cemetery N 7000 made by Mr. Lythgoe. (7) Accession numbers of objects in the Lowie Museum, Berkeley.
