This is the rating and price for Temne Helmet Mask Human Cow Sierra Leone , second half 20th Cen

Description : Additional Information:  , ,This interesting piece is very close to the masks produced by the Temne.  ,The Temne live in Sierra Leone,  , an area in which the women' s initiation and social regulatory society known as Bundu among the Temne and Sande among the Mende people serves as a strong social force initiating young girls and exercising social control. If this mask were part of Temne Bundu rituals and initiations it would have been owned by a senior member of the Bundu Society and brought out to dance at the initiations of young girls serving as a symbol of perfection and behavior that they were to model themselves after. , Interestingly, this object is a composite  ,mask presenting a small face featuring a human character and horns in the back recalling a bush cow character. A strong mask showing some wear and good age and a rare Temne mask found o the market these days! I have examined this piece and agree with the description. Niangi Batulukisi, PhD. ,
