Description : Wood partially painted and gilded Egypt, Late Period, 26th to 30th Dynasty Statue of Ptah-Seker-Osiris with cross band pattern on the body Stuccoed and gilded face Elaborate reverse side Cross pattern and gold painting in good condition Dimensions (incl. stub): 40.8 x 6.9 x 3.7 cm(height x width x depth) Provenance: Private Collection Bruno Wertz Scientific research: Dr. Jan Moje, Free University of Berlin (see references below) Parallels: M.J. Raven, „Papyrus-sheats and Ptah-Sokar-Osiris Statues, in OMRO 59-60 (1978-79), 251 - 296 This god statue dates to the Late Period of ancient Egypt, from the 26 υ th to the 30 υ th Dynasty (664-342 BCE). The statue is created of painted wood and of slim and mummy-like shape. It is wearing a long, three-parted wig that used to be painted with white stripes. On top of the head is a small square hole that commonly held the feather crown. Both ears are free and slightly bent forward. The face is stuccoed and then gilded, most of which has survived. The narrow and tipped nose does not display nostrils, the mouth is narrow and has got full lips. Eye brows, eye lids and pupils were painted over in black. A long and slim god's beard is attached to the chin connected by a barwith the neck. The beard section is slightly asymmetrical, so the face appears bent to the side. Below the beard, remains of a black collar of several rows are visible. The entire body is decorated with a cross band pattern. Columns of hieroglyphics are located on the front and back sides, which have unfortunately become illegible. The wooden figure of Ptah-Seker-Osiris is in age-accordingly,very well-preserved condition with normal traces of wear like abrasion of surface and colour. The head and the back left part pervades a deep crack in the wood, which migrates down the corpus. A piece of the gold painting is missing on the right half of the face. The dimensions including the stub are 40.8 x 6.9 x 3.7 cm(height x width x depth).
