Description : [ Foreign Silver ] Military interest:- A rare 19th Century South African marrow scoop, engraved on one side with crest, on the other with the badge of the 98th Foot, by Lawrence Holme Twentyman, Cape of Good Hope, circa 1830 (Marks as Welz n. 140 E350-400 The 98th Foot ( later the 2nd Battalion the North Staffordshire Regiment) embarked for the Cape of Good Hope in December 1824 and stayed for nearly thirteen years serving mostly in the Western province of the colony. see illustration
