Description : Sickness mask Yoruba, Nigeria blackened wood, of oval hollowed form with a bulging chin, the brows forming a horizontal line with half-circular, narrow slit eyes underneath, alternating dyed in red and white, flanking a diagonal arranged nose with furcated tip, slightly dam., missing parts at the rim, on base, various ethnical groups produced sickness masks, for example the Ibibio, the Yoruba and the West-Pende. Aside of gangosa pharyngitis above all facial paralysis is depicted. H: 20 cm, (4634/004)
