This is the rating and price for Romano-Egyptian Bronze Amulet - Thoth In Baboon Form

Description : Egypt, Romano-Egyptian period, ca. 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. A charming cast-bronze zoomorphic amulet of a baboon seated upon an integral rectangular plinth. The figure's arms rest upon bent legs, with sloping shoulders, a spherical snout and nose, recessed triangular eyes, and an overarching brow line. A small perforated suspension loop is on the verso. Baboons were not native to Egypt, but instead were imported from Nubia. They were, however, common animals in the ancient Egyptian artistic tradition as well as being important to religious worship. This primate example is representative of Thoth. Thoth was the god of writing, accounting, and other intellectual pursuits, and was typically associated with the ibis, however, he would assume the form of a baboon in certain stories. Size: 0.875 H (2.2 cm).
