Description : Roman Gold Ring With Profile of an Empress, Possibly Plotina 2nd century A.D., the ring consisting of an imperial lady's profile with bound hair mounted to pointed convex hoop. Imperial coin portraits of Plotina, wife of the emperor Trajan (98-117 A.D.), generally depict the empress wearing a long plait reaching the back of her neck. Plotina's coin portraits of the Greek East, however, often resemble the subject of this ring.
