This is the rating and price for Rare Telegram Pertaining To King Tut'S Tomb, Sent To Lead Excavator Howard Carter In 1923 -- ''...No Permit Is Or Has Been Issued...Without My Previous Sanction...''

Description : Original Egyptology telegram addressed to Howard Carter in Luxor, date stamped 5 February 1923. Carter discovered the tomb of King Tut in 1922 and conducted its entire excavation and emptying of artifacts, which were transported to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, a vast undertaking completed over the course of 8 years. From Abdul Hamid Soliman, the Minister of Public Works of the Antiquities Department in Cairo, telegram is stamp signed with Soliman's full name. Content reads in full, ''No permit is or has been issued under the signature of either Mr. Lacau or Mr. Daressy without my previous sanction. Please consider any such permit as officially emanating from the ministry. Abdul Hamid Soliman / Under Secretary of State to Public Works''. Lacau and Carter had a fraught relationship during the excavation, each with his own agenda as to the handling of the tomb's artifacts. Measures 10'' x 6'' with toning and creasing to right portion of telegram. Some pencil notations in an unknown hand. Very good.
