This is the rating and price for Projet De Costume 'Creation Du Monde', 1923

Description : pencil on paper 27 by 21cm., 10K by 8Din. Executed circa 1923. African masks were keenly collected by artists such as Vlaminck, Derain, Matisse, Picasso and Braque from around 1905-06 and Leger would have been familiar with them. The masks were brought to France by the visitors of the French colonies and were also available for view at the Musee d'Ethnographie. Initially, the interest in the masks was strictly formal. Scientific interest in African art did not begin seriously in France until the 1930s and most of the detailed English and German accounts of the art were not available in translation. Many leading Parisian dealers in African artifacts had never visited Africa, but none missed the significance of the role these objects played in religious life and African cults.
