Description : An African Bobo Molo Carved and Painted Wood Helmet Mask, Burkina Faso, 20th Century. H: 34 W: 10 D: 18 in. Collection of Al Bright. From the collection of Al Bright. Alfred L. Bright, (American, 1940 – 2019), aka Al Bright, was a well-known Mahoning Valley artist, advocate and educator. He was the Professor Emeritus, Department of Art, Youngstown State University, Founder of the YSU Black Studies Program. He was the first African-American full service faculty member at YSU, where he had earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education. He received his Master’s Degree in Painting from Kent State University and was a three-time recipient of YSU’s Distinguished Professorship Award. His artwork is featured in local private and public collections throughout the country.
