Description : Old carved wooden sculpture from the Dogon of Mali, Africa, in the Bombu-Toro style, which is located in the central region of the Bandiagara southern cliffs. This hermaphrodite figure is carved in a stylized abstracted manner, The long columnar body has an elongated neck and arms,prominent breasts and foreshortened legs. The figure is naked except for armlets and bracelets, and has a large helmet-like head with a crested plaited hair ridge and side coifs ornamented with engraved cross-hatch motifs., with tab-beard or lip-plug below. Note the figures long arms an downward facing hands, with some obvious age and field use.
