Description : AFRICAN TRIBAL ART: NKISI NAIL FETISH/POWER FIGURE - Kongo peoples, DR Congo. Carved wood figure with inserted nails, wrapped fiber and shells that have been added over time. One-half face painted with red ochre, right arm raised with open hand, extended belly with man's face imposed on it. A Nkisi is regarded as a vessel for a spirit from the dead with power to heal, protect or punish. Condition good. Late 19th, early 20th century. 11.5H
