Description : -Ngbandi Face Mask- Central African Republic / Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaire), Africa- -Early to Mid 20th Century- The Ngbandi people of southern Central African, Republic and northern Democratic Republic of Congo share a common language family and artistic style with many groups in the region, including parts of southern Sudan. They are primarily known for their weapons, including knives and spears, as, well as harp style musical instruments. This wonderfully carved mask features convex eyes, an angular nose, and a small, slightly protruding mouth. Provenance:, These pieces were collected over a period of several decades out of collections from America and throughout Europe, including France, Germany, Belgium, and Amsterdam beginning in the early 1960s.
