Description : Central Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kuba peoples, Nkutshu group, ca. mid 20th century CE. A nice example of an iron and wood currency knife featuring a broad, leaf-shaped iron blade with low ridges forming an outline on its interior. The wooden handle has a round disc at its center, a hammered brass covered guard, and a series of ridges forming grips along its length. Size: 4.9 W x 18.7 H (12.4 cm x 47.5 cm), 19.25 H (48.9 cm) on included custom stand. See a similar example at the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art (80-21-61).
