Description : Hand carved African helmet mask by the Mende people found in the Sierra Leone region. These masks would have been worn by women and exemplified the ideals of female beauty including a full forehead, small facial features, and an ornate and elaborate hairstyle. The bottom rim of the helmet mask has perforations all around, these would have been used to attach the helmet to a costume. There are some cracks in the wood due to age, but overall very good condition. The helmet has two faces, one on each side. Measures 19.5 inches tall with around 12 inches in diameter at the widerst point. Third party shipping required.
