Congo, Ngbandi wood, shiny, dark brown patina, of vaulted form with pointed chin, parallel scarification marks in the area of forehead and cheeks, circular drilling underneath the nose, eyes and ears accentuated by kaolin, pierced around the rim, min. dam., fissures, slight traces of abrasion, the Ngbandi are an ethnic group numbering 120000 people in the northwestern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. They have their homeland to the east and south of the Oubangi River which in this area bends at a right angle to the east and forms the border to the Central African Republic.
