Description : Egypt, Ptolemaic to Romano-Egyptian period, ca. 332 BCE to 2nd century CE. A fine pair of mold-formed pottery lamps with flat bases, rounded shoulders, small fill holes, and rounded wick spouts. The red-brown lamp depicts a low relief frog atop the raised center and bears an amphibious head, rotund body with a textured body, and thin legs with delineated toes. The beige lamp takes the form of a crocodile with a scaly body, small back legs flanking a conical tail, beady eyes, and a lengthy snout which doubles as the wick spout.
