Title : Large Circular Engraving
Notes : Extremely rare piece of ephemera, we have been unable to trace another copy of this curious engraving. A similar circular engraving, of Fontaine's Fables, is held at both the Cotsen Children's Library, Princeton University and Musée Jean de la Fontaine, Château-Thierry, France. A defective copy of the Fables appeared at auction in 2015. Jean Philippe Guy le Gentil was a celebrated miniaturist, and this carefully composed engraving, with its myriad tiny images, was probably intended to demonstrate his skill.Dominic Winter Auctions, auctioneer
