The handle is made from fossilized mammoth ivory, and the blade is a Gibeon Meteorite that is has an upturned, pointed tip. The meteorite tang is covered with a steel guard and butt cap that sandwich the central grip of mammoth ivory. The two panels are highly polished with the creamy ivory and inky black and gray striations and spirals throughout. This was indeed made to be used and is very sharp. However, we completely understand if this is too pretty to use on a regular basis, so a fossilized mammoth ivory stand is included to display the knife. On stand: 9.75 L x 2 W x 3 H (24.8 cm x 5.1 cm x 7.6 cm), knife: 9.25 L x 1.3 W (23.5 cm x 3.3 cm), blade only: 5 L x 1.25 W (12.7 cm x 3.2 cm) Forging meteorites is notoriously difficult, and is an uncommon material to work with. Extraterrestrial iron was used by ancient cultures and revered as pieces from the cosmos and usually forged into ceremonial pieces, indeed a meteorite blade was discovered in the tomb of the Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun. The Gibeon meteorite is so called due to its impact in Namibia, near the city of Gibeon, in prehistoric times. The Nama people collected the pieces from the meteorite-strewn field.
