This is the rating and price for Important Sasanian Silver Bowl W/ Griffin

Description : Ancient Near East / Central Asia, Sasanian (Sassanian / Sassanid) Empire, ca. 2nd to 7th century CE. An incredible oval- or elliptical-shaped 96% silver vessel with a deep basin, thin walls, unpronounced rim, and a profusion of lightly incised motifs. These motifs are set within regularly spaced, diamond-shaped frames, also shallowly incised. In tondo is the largest motif, a seated griffin shown in profile with magnificent, flame-like wings. The griffin, half eagle and half lion, was a fierce symbol of divine power. Surrounding it are peacock-like birds, four-pointed floral motifs, and heart-shaped motifs. On the exterior are deer, rabbits, smaller birds, and grapes, surrounded by a profusion of vine-like motifs, giving an impression of abundance. Size: 8.25 W x 2.2 H (21 cm x 5.6 cm), silver is 96%, total weight: 178.1 grams The Sasanian elite valued beautiful metal objects, especially those made of silver and gold. Many of these objects drew inspiration from Greco-Roman artwork, including mythological figures like the griffin seen here, who is in contrast to the more Near Eastern themes of hunting and abundance that the rest of the vessel exhibits. Sasanian artistic culture, in turn, spread along the Silk Road, influencing metalwork in western Iran and the Caspian Sea, and bowls like this one have been found as far afield as the eastern coast of China. This example is nearly identical to one at LACMA: A similar example with gilt on it sold for $192000 USD at Sotheby's: Provenance: private California, USA collection, by descent, moved from Germany in 1997, originally collected in the 1970s in Hamburg, Germany All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
