This is the rating and price for Important Early 20Th C. African Ligbi Wood Mask

Description : Africa, Ivory Coast / Ghana, ca. early 20th century CE. A finely carved wooden mask created by the Ligbi peoples for the 'do' or 'lo' - a vibrant form of masquerade dancing. The mask presents both zoomorphic and anthropomorphic traits with rectangular eye and mouth slits, a relatively naturalistic nose in high relief, scarification marks upon the cheeks, forehead, and flanking the mouth, incised cross-hatching over the forehead, and spiraling horns rising from the head. Although this custom of the do/lo is on the decline, it is still practiced on significant Islamic holidays such as the end of Ramadan. Following the fasting period, a feast occurs for several days and masked dancers are accompanied by singing and drum playing to express their jubilation. Size: 12.5 H (31.8 cm), 17.125 H (43.5 cm) on included custom stand.
