Description : African art. Nigeria - Yoruba. Ibeji pair. Hardwood with glossy, earthy patina, blue pigments and beads. Signs of use.. A refined pair of Ibeji twins, male and female, recognisable not only by their sexual attributes but also by their different hairstyles. Hailing from the Iseyn region of Oyo, in south-east Nigeria, with artistic stylistic features referable to the sculptural school of the Falade family, this pair of Ibejis is considered to be of scarce availability in the rarity index compiled by Fausto Polo in his valuable book Encyclopedie des Ibeji. They stand out for their excellent carving quality with the relative glossy patina of the faces and for their state of preservation, having retained both the original blue colour in the hair and the earthy material that characterises them.. Cm 7,00 x 26,00 x 7,50.
