This terracotta originates from the Ptolemaic Period (332-30 BCE) from ancient Egypt and represents the Egyptian-Hellenised god Harpocrates. His characteristic features are here the merely weakly shaped youth side lock on his right and a mane of curly hair and old Egyptian double crown. The double crown symbolises the reign of this child god over the land Egypt. Attributes that link to the childlikeness of this god are the chubby-cheeked face, and the forefinger resting on his mouth. Most of the pieces of this type seem to originate from Alexandria to Memphis, Upper Egyptian places of discovery are not yet known. The pieces were generally moulded in clay and of hollow form, the backsides remained non-decorated.
The terracotta is in age-according, very well-preserved condition. The part below the head is missing. The nose is a bit stronger abraded. Above, in the centre of the head stemming, and on the exterior right on the hair, there are two cracks visible. Sandy traces are kept in the holes of the form. A little modern Plexiglas plinth belongs to the statue with a metal pole on which the head can be hung up. The dimensions of the piece are 6.7 x 4 x 3.2 cm (width x height x depth).
