This is the rating and price for Harpocrates Riding On A Goose

Description : Fired clay Egypt, Roman Period Fragment of a terracotta of the god Harpocrates riding on a goose Dimensions: 8.5 x 3.6 x 2.4 cm (width x height x depth) Provenance: Private Collection Bruno Wertz Scientific research: Dr. Jan Moje, Free University of Berlin (see references below) A complete, very similar comparandum is located in the Archaeological Collection in Tübingen (S13/26663) This terracotta originates from the Roman Period of ancient Egypt (AD 1 υ st -2 υ nd Century). Depicted is the Greek-Roman god Harpocrates. The hand at his mouth is distinctly preserved. In addition to that, he is wearing a short-sleeve chiton (underdress). A voluminous wreath sits on top of the curly hair. A complete, very similar comparandum at the Archaeological Collection in Tübingen (S13/26663) shows that this type represents Harpocrates riding on a goose, holding a club in his hand. Due to the identical iconographic forms, especially distinctive in the hair and face areas, also the fragment discussed here could originate from the same model. Harpocrates was also worshiped as god of protection, arising from Hellenistic tradition, and it is precisely this why he was depicted riding on different animals. Some of these animals explicitly show their connection to certain gods, and so does the goose. The terracotta is in good condition, considering its immensely great age. The part below the breast is missing. On the left part of the corpus, a larger shard is missing. There are remains of sand in the holes of the form. Nose and other details are heavily abraded. The dimensions of the figure are 8.5 x 3.6 x 2.4 cm (width x height x depth). Auctionata would like to express its deep gratitude to Dr. Jan Moje for the scientific preparation of the collection and the research for the text.
