Description : Ancient Egypt, Second Intermediate Period, 14th / 15th Dynasty, reign of Pharaoh Sheshi (Maat-ib-Re), ca. 1648 to 1539 BCE. A hand-carved steatite scarab amulet for Pharaoh Sheshi whose chronological reign has not been conclusively proven. The topside features intricate insectile features such as a trapezoidal head, a frilled clypeus, and sinuous legs tucked beneath the folded wing carapace. Displayed across the bottom is a duck and a sun disc above an enclosed cartouche for the pharaoh as well as curvilinear solar filiations along the lateral peripheries. When translated the bottom reads, Son of Ra, Sheshi, (to whom may be given?) life. Size: 0.75 L x 0.55 W (1.9 cm x 1.4 cm) Cf.
