Description : One of the great abstractions in African Art is the Kple Kple Mask of the Goli people. With a flat face and highly abstracted features like a rectangular mouth, oval framed eyes, and pair of horns make this piece a rare and beautiful, cultural artifact from the early to mid 20th centure Goli people. Symbolizing the sun, the face is made to be circular. The represent buffalo which is the symbol of fecundation is represented by the two, horns at the top of the mask. The Kple Kple mask was used as commemorative, agricultural and burial ceremonies and is associated both with the Baule and Goli peoples. Provenance:, These pieces were collected over a period of several decades out of collections from America and throughout Europe, including France, Germany, Belgium, and Amsterdam beginning in the early 1960s. The items in this collection have been, identified by George Mack, former director of the Arizona African Art Museum. Piece is in good condition for its age, showing signs of use with a very nice patina. St and not included.
