Erste Ausgabe. - Eins von 900 in der Hogarth Press von Virginia und Leonard Woolf veröffentlichten Exemplaren. - Mit eigenhändiger Widmung des Autors an den bekannten britischen Neurologen Sir Henry Head (1861-1940) auf dem Vorsatz, datiert 1925. - Forster hatte die Essays während seines Alexandria-Aufenthaltes in The Egyptian Mail, The Egyptian Gazette und, nach seiner Rückkehr nach London, in Athenaeum veröffentlicht. - Under Pharos I have grouped a few antique events, to modern events and to personal impressions I have given the name of Pharillon ... (Einleitung). - Zum Erfolg der vorliegenden Ausgabe schrieb er 1923 an den griechischen Dichter C. P. Cavafy, dessen Gedichte hier erstmals erschienen: 900 copies have been sold in six weeks, we are rushing out a second edition, long reviews in the Nation, the New Statesman, the Daily telegraph, etc. (Lago/Furbank A9a). - Zweiseitig unbeschnitten, Buchblock angebrochen, ansonsten sauberes Exemplar mit geringer Randbräunung.
