Publisher: French government - Author: Commission des sciences et arts d'Egypte. This series of publications aimed to present a comprehensive catalogue of the monuments of ancient and modern Egypt. More than 160 scholars and scientists - referred to as the savants - accompanied Napoleon's expedition to Egypt from 1798 to 1801 in addition to approximately 2,000 artists, among them 400 engravers.
