First edition in Italian language of Boehm's work describing the customs, manners, habits and dress of the different peoples of the world that were known at that time: Europe, Asia, America and especially Africa.
The description of the peoples of the New World appeared in this edition for the first time.
The first book deals with the antique peoples as well as those of Africa (Mainly Ethiopia and Egypt). Book two gives an account of the Asian peoples, which means mainly the Middle East and Turkey (Syria, Palestine, Parthia, Persia and Scytia, Tartary and Turkey). The third book, the most extensive one (196 pages), is devoted to the European peoples. Finally, the fourth book gives an overview of the peoples of Indie, by which the New World is meant (Hispaniola, Florida, Cuba, Iucatan till Nicaragua, Peru and even the Strait of Magellan is mentioned as such) .
Hans Boehm (ca 1485-1535) was a German priest and writer. He is also known as the Father of Scientific Ethnology as he published in Latin the present work Omnium gentium mores, leges, ritus (Augsburg, 1520), that became a very popular work and was frequently reprinted and in 1542 translated in Italian and French.
