Description : Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, reign of Thutmose III, ca. 1479 to 1425 BCE. A hand-carved white steatite scaraboid of ovoid, bifacial form that is pierced lengthwise for suspension. Incised on one side is the vertical cartouche reading Menkheperre, the throne name of Thutmose III that translates to Lasting is the Manifestation of Ra, and the scarab is flanked by a heart-and-windpipe (nefer meaning perfect and beautiful) and a hatchet (neter meaning god). The opposite side bears a series of hieroglyphs reading, Aman Ra tat, or Of the substance of Amen Ra. Condition report : Small area of infill on side without cartouche, with resurfacing and overpainting. Abrasions and small nicks commensurate with age, with minor softening to some hieroglyphs, and light encrustations. Great preservation to most hieroglyphs.
