Description : Lapis was prized by the ancient Egyptians over all other stones & gold. This extraordinary necklace (acq. 1906 Egypt, Dubois, exhibited museums: Met NY 1920, Boston 1945, MoM CA 1968) of lapis lazuli amulets with a superb central square pendant (1 1/2 x 3/4 /3.5x1.5cm) of a standing lion-headed goddess (Sekhmet) with hole through center for suspension but secured with a newer gold clasp. Amulets(1/2 - 1, 2.5cm) include frog, djed, scarab, hearts, seals, Harpokrates (with finger to mouth), (Bastet) cat-headed snakes Strung with tubular all lapis & gold sheet round beads
