A tan-glazed steatite scarab with a protruding clypeus, lateral plates, a rounded thorax, and delineated elytra, all above sinuous legs. Beneath the insect are incised hieroglyphs intended as well wishes for a happy new year. Scarabs were protective talismans and had magical powers to ward off evil as the ancients were extremely superstitious.
