Description : Egypt, Late Dynastic (27th Dynasty) to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 525 to 30 BCE. A mold-formed faience scarab button pendant of naturalistic ovoid form, all covered in layers of lustrous light-blue glaze. The insectile accessory features a bulky body with a vertically striated wing carapace, a tapered head with petite eyes and a frilled, fan-shaped clypeus, and sinuous legs that curl underneath the body. Centered on the underside is an integral suspension loop that enables the composition to hang from a necklace strand or be used as a garment button. Size: 1.05 L x 0.76 W (2.7 cm x 1.9 cm) Provenance: private Toronto, Ontario, Canada collection, by descent, acquired in Egypt in 1894 to 1896 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
