Description : Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th to 20th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1077 BCE. A beautiful and petite faience scaraboid pendant of ovoid form featuring the effigy of a Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) on the topside with incised scales, pectoral and anal fins, and a lengthy dorsal fin that terminates just prior to the trapezoidal tail. The underside of the pendant features a series of incised hieroglyphs, and a suspension hole is drilled lengthwise through the body. Covered in layers of turquoise-hued glaze, this is a pristine piscine pendant from ancient Egypt! Condition report : Minor fading to glaze in scattered areas and very light encrustations within some recessed areas, otherwise intact and excellent. Wonderful preservation to finer details, glaze pigment, and hieroglyphs.
