Large Egyptain brilliant blue faiance openwork plaque in the form of the protective deity, Bes, donning a feathered headdress, with alternate feathers and small physiognomic details accomplished in contrasting black glaze. Amulets of Bes were worn by women and children in particular for protection from nefarious forces. Pierced for suspension as a pendant. Third Intermediate Period, circa 945-712 B.C.E. Width: 2.
