This is the rating and price for Egyptian Blue-Glazed Faience Child'S Headrest, 2055

Description : A wonderful Egyptian blue-glazed faience child's headrest, Middle Kingdom, c. 2055 - 1650 BC, with vivid color. Headrests have been associated with the mummies and tombs of ancient Egypt dating back to the early Middle Kingdom, and were generally wooden, faience or stone. These headrests were placed under the heads of the deceased, because the human head was considered to be the essence of life and sacred. The ancient Egyptians used these headrests to provide support to a corpse's head, uphold body vigor, keep blood circulating, and keep demons away. This fantastic blue-glazed child's headrest is an exceptionally rare piece. H: 1 1/3 in (3.5cm), L: 3 1/2 in (9cm). Few small areas of old restoration. Ex Deaccession from David Winton Bell Gallery - Brown University, Providence, RI.
